Heat, glass, and hands-on creativity

Some events call for a change of scenery. When the fire department drew the line at bringing a 2,400-degree furnace into Adorn, we happily took this one on the road straight to Flux Studio.

It was the middle of summer. Hot. Shade tents were up, cold drinks were flowing, and everyone was excited to experience glass blowing in its natural habitat.

Getting close to the art and the process

We kicked things off with a conversation with Flux Studio owners and artists Cortney and Nate, who walked us through the art and science of glass blowing. Nate followed with a live demonstration, creating part of a commissioned piece right before our eyes.

Exploring material through hands-on making

Then it was our turn. Each guest created a fused glass plate, choosing from an assortment of materials. Glass shards Cortney made by blowing tiny bubbles and breaking them. Playful glass “noodles” resembling spaghetti, linguini, and angel hair. Small glass balls in saturated colors.

Designers dove in, layering textures and hues to create one-of-a-kind compositions.

How the experience came full circle

A few weeks later, we picked up the finished pieces. Fully melted, polished, and transformed. The results were stunning. We were truly blown away.

This event was a perfect mix of education, experimentation, and community. Proof that sometimes the best way to experience art is to step into the studio and feel the heat firsthand.
