Clay-making with the pros

Sean and Willy shared the story behind Fenway Clayworks and the evolving philosophy shaping their approach to artisan ceramics.

The conversation focused less on perfection and more on process, on repetition, patience, and learning to work alongside unpredictability rather than against it. Guests then watched a live throwing demonstration, including a cross-section reveal that exposed the internal structure of a ceramic form while showing just how much control, pressure, and timing influences the finished object.

Behind the wheel

After the demonstration, members of the Trade Troop stepped behind the wheel for their own hands-on throwing experience.

What initially appears effortless becomes something entirely different once your hands meet the clay. Forms collapse. Pressure shifts. Rhythm disappears and slowly returns.

With guidance from Sean and Willy, guests began learning the fundamentals of centering clay, shaping form, and adjusting movement in real time.

From clay to pottery

What began as a simple lump of clay slowly transformed into something personal. Each object reflected the movement, hesitation, adjustment, and learning curve behind it.

The pieces will remain at Fenway Clayworks in Golden to be fired, marking a pause in the process rather than the end of it.

Once completed, the ceramic objects will be glazed and returned to Adorn, where designers and guests can collect their finished work.

An unforgettable local art workshop

Designers, creatives, and guests all stepped into the same unfamiliar process together. Everyone experienced the same uncertainty, the same failed attempts, and the same small breakthroughs.

That movement, from observer to participant, builds a deeper appreciation not only for the team at Fenway, but for craftsmanship as a whole. It reinforces the kind of thoughtful, process-driven perspective that continues to strengthen the Colorado design community.
